A-Frame Signs Offer Fresh, Convenient, and Portable Advertising

Posted on December 17, 2015 | Posted by Kris Williamson

A-frame signs (a.k.a. sandwich boards or sidewalk signs) offer the flexibility to advertise what you want where you want it. We design and install graphics for A-frame signs that will be on display for restaurants, food trucks, churches, retail locations, entertainment hot spots, and more. The signage can be placed in small areas (inside or out) with big visibility. They are perfect for parking lots, sidewalks, entryways, checkout lines, and other high traffic locations.

The portable signs come in a variety of styles and sizes, which can compliment any brand color or design. There are molded plastic and framed metal options that provide a range of double-sided display layouts. The typical display area for an A-frame sign is 24" wide by 36" tall; however, there are styles that can fit just about any need. (There is even a mini sign stand that holds 8.5" by 11" signs and can sit on a tabletop or counter.)

A-frame signage can be used to:

  • Direct traffic (by vehicle and foot) to a location.
  • Let potential customers know that a local salon accepts walk-ins.
  • Announce that a new business is 'Now Open'.
  • Advertise daily specials and musical guests at restaurants.
  • Promote sales and discounts at retail locations.
  • Identify specific areas at sporting events.
  • Provide important information to parents and guests at school events or in the pick-up line.

There are many other ways that sidewalk signs can be used to inform, educate, and enlighten. Since they are relatively lightweight and easy to move, they can switch from indoor to outdoor displays in a flash.

This molded plastic design is one of our most popular! We created a number of these that were used as wayfinding signage for a temporary location of Church of the City in Franklin, TN. The directional information was digitally printed onto vinyl material, laminated with a matte finish, and applied directly to both sides of the sidewalk sign. The signage easily can be moved around and stored in between uses.

Whether the message is temporary, rotating, seasonal, or permanent, A-frame signs allow individuals, businesses, and organizations to relay information at an affordable cost. The information can be displayed by:

  • Mounting a digitally printed vinyl piece directly to the sign.
  • Installing the message on an insert that can be removed and replaced, making modifications convenient and quick.
  • Using dry erase or chalkboard vinyl to allow frequent changes or updates, such as daily specials on a menu.

Speaking of menus, this is a proof of a layout that we created for Apollo Burger. The graphics are used on the menu board for their food truck, and we designed the contour cut vinyl removable decals to use on the items as they sell out. (Yes, they are THAT good!) This graphic was digitally printed, laminated with a matte finish, and applied to a 1/8" thick black PVC panel (times 2!). The panels were inserted into a molded plastic frame and are displayed outside of the food truck when they are open for business.

Ornamental A-frame signage with a chalk board insert for Franklin Synergy Bank in Westhaven. 12-Point SignWorks

We created the graphics on this ornamental A-frame sign for Franklin Synergy Bank. The informational panels slide in from the sides of the frame. We mounted the digital prints and chalkboard vinyl onto 1/8" thick ACP panels. The chalkboard allows the bank to advertise for any special promotions, percentage rates, events, and more.

Many businesses and groups choose the standard molded plastic sandwich boards (like the Church of the City photo) that can have the message mounted directly to the face or placed on an insert. The A-frame can be filled with sand or water to increase stability during windy or stormy weather. Our most popular style comes in a variety of base colors; however, we find that white and black are the most favored.

Ornamental A-frame signs provide a fancier option for portable messages. We often use ACP inserts with vinyl mounted on them to relay the desired message. These signs provide a swankier look for upscale neighborhoods, restaurants, and shopping areas.

This ornamental A-frame sign has digitally printed graphics on 1/8" thick ACP panels. This is the same display as the photo above it; however, the frame was returned to us after the Grand Opening so that we could add the graphics and chalkboard vinyl.

No matter where the signs are strategically placed, these powerful marketing tools are a must for any business. We even feature them as one of the 5 Signs Your Business Can't Live Without.
