Using architectural finishes to customize a business logo sign

Posted on February 01, 2011 | Posted by Murray Johns

Business logo signs are an effective way to impress your brand and marketing message on clients and visitors within your lobby and reception areas.

In order to tie in the surrounding architecture with a company's logo sign, a variety of architectural finishes such as 3M's DI-NOC (TM) products can be applied to enhance and complement the sign's visual appearance.  These particular finishes are flexible PVC films.  Quoting 3M's site: "These architectural finishes have excellent adhesion and flexibility‚ allowing them to be used indoors or outdoors on flat or complex curved substrates‚ walls‚ furniture‚ fixtures‚ etc."

In a recent lobby sign fabricated for Kiewit's Brentwood TN office, the client was interested in matching the logo's background with the wood grain look of a large reception desk in the same room.  Searches through traditional laminate finish catalogs and wood stain samples proved fruitless, but a review of DI-NOC (TM) finishes produced a good match for the desk's dark color and finish.

The logo itself was fabricated from laser-cut acrylic faced with a brushed metal finish.  The logo was applied to the DI-NOC (TM) finish, and the lobby sign was fastened to the wall with attractive satin finish cylindrical standoffs.
