Micro-venting: Breathable Wallcoverings

Posted on January 18, 2012 | Posted by Rich Novia

Humid environments are a common place for cultivating mold and mildew. Add a layer of graphic wall coverings to the mix, and you can find yourself with mold and mildew building up out of sight, between the wall and the graphic décor.  As is well documented in the news, the presence of mold and/or mildew can create a dangerous condition for humans.  Not to be discouraged from choosing custom wall coverings in your business or restaurant, the right micro-venting process can mitigate the threat of mold and mildew cultivating behind your walls.

Through the use of digital printing on a variety of textured and patterned wallcoverings, you can have your design concepts brought to reality, without sacrificing quality or cleanliness.  Once printed, the wallcoverings are covered with a protective coating that allows the wall to be wiped clean without damaging the digital printing.  After the coating process, the panels are micro-vented with a hot needle process.  The micro-venting process creates approximately 25,000 holes per square foot of surface area.  The sizing and distance between holes maintain the aesthetic appearance without sacrificing the graphics visibility. Because any trapped moisture is able to pass through the graphics, the elements needed to encourage the growth of mold and mildew are greatly minimized.

When hung with the appropriate installation materials, the final product is a custom printed, designer, decorative wallcovering that brings function over form.  Offering visual impact without sacrificing cleanliness or cleaning ability, your graphics will remain brilliant and fresh looking while minimizing the conditions that would foster pesky mold and mildew growth behind the wallcoverings.
