5 Tips for Effective and Memorable Advertising Vehicle Wraps

For small and medium businesses, branding, logo recognition and memorability are essential. Achieving this is made easier by turning every vehicle within your fleet into mobile marketing machines through the use of advertising vehicle wraps.

How to make advertising vehicle wraps effective and memorable

  • Accuracy - In vehicle wrap designs, awareness of the vehicle's three-dimensional shape and how it can distort (or enhance) the design is critical to achieve a good-looking, high quality result. The wrap design needs to maintain the integrity of the logo and of critical contact information while accounting for door handles, window trim, body molding, and other surface "disturbances" that can otherwise break up important information and the wrap's visual impact.  Experienced wrap design professionals are aware of these nuances and will be able to deliver a superior wrap through both the design and the approach taken for the wrap's installation.
  • Brand - A wrap is only as effective as the brand it's promoting. Colors, logos, fonts — every aspect of what goes into your wrap -- should speak clearly to what you offer to your target market (services, products, etc.).  A good vehicle wrap design will complement and strengthen your branding and marketing message.
  • Text minimalism - Part of good branding is clearly telling people what you do in a few simple words (remember practicing your "elevator pitch"?), but keep in mind your wrap has limited space and is a moving billboard that might provide only 2-3 seconds of visibility as it drives by. Any critical contact information such as your website address or phone number should easily readable. Your advertising vehicle wrap can even incorporate photographic images and illustrations that represent who you are and what you do as a business. No matter what, keep it simple!
  • Impact - It's important to have your wrap noticed, but it's more important to have it noticed for the right reasons.  You want your target market, including current and potential clients, to remember the message communicated by your advertising vehicle wrap so that it will call them to action to purchase your products and/or to use your services and to recommend them to others.  Industry research data regarding how consumers respond to vehicle wraps and fleet graphics is very compelling.
  • Simplicity in design - Sometimes less is more. A busy design with lots of elements can attract attention but may not speak to what you do. Keep your design sophisticated enough to appeal but not so much so as to distract from your message.  A design that stands out for its simplicity and clarity and that speaks directly to your target market is much more effective than a busy, cluttered design that tries to communicate too much information.
