Considering Fleet Graphics? What to Do and What to Avoid

Posted on June 03, 2013 | Posted by Murray Johns

One of the most valuable assets to a business is the fleet of vehicles owned by the business. Apart from providing  transport, vehicles can be a great resource for advertising and marketing. Businesses that own fleet vehicles should take advantage of this form of car wrap advertising, especially because it has a lower cost per thousand impressions when compared to other forms of traditional advertising.

In order to get maximum benefits from fleet graphics, there are a few things to keep in mind.

What to do

  • Identify the objective you want the fleet graphics to achieve. This could be building your brand, increasing product/service awareness, increasing revenues or even gaining a competitive advantage.
  • Once you have the objective, it's easier to choose the wording and images that will carry out your message on the vehicles. The message should make a major impact on the potential customer, and quickly. Often a glance is all your potential clients will have as your vehicle drives by them.
  • The message's design will be most effective if left to a professional vehicle wrap design company. Choose a team that's experienced in designing and printing fleet graphics as well as in the process of wrapping.

Fleet graphics ensure consistency in advertising across different vehicle types

  • Ensure that the vehicles are seen by your target audience. Fleet graphics perform better with good geographical targeting. The vehicles should operate in areas where the target audience is found.
  • Choose a company that's experienced in wrapping the type of vehicle that you own and that can show you a broad portfolio of its wrap design and fleet wrap installations. It's important that the wrap company understands your objectives, needs and requirements in order to accomplish a wrap design and installation layout that best responds to these.

What to avoid
  • Don't make the decision of which fleet graphics service provider to use solely based on price. As we have seen time and time again, a lower price typically represents inferior print quality (poor colors, fuzzy images, "banding" or stripes in the printed graphics) and poor quality installation (many small patches, misaligned graphics, peeling wrap vinyl).
  • If you're considering the purchase of a vehicle to add to your fleet, look for vehicles that have good quality paint.  Paint that is chipping or peeling will not provide a good surface for fleet graphics - the vinyl graphics or vinyl wrap material need a good, clean glossy surface for best adhesion.
