Directional Signage: Make Sure Clients Know Where to Find You

Posted on August 13, 2013 | Posted by Murray Johns

When visitors arrive at your facility, it should be simple for them to locate where it is that they need to go. Although navigating your building or campus may be simple for you, for an outsider, it may seem like a confusing maze. This is why it's so important for you to evaluate your business' directional signage and make additions or improvements, if needed.

To assist you in the evaluation process, here are some tips on what good way-finding signs should look like.

Entrance situated
When guests arrive at your building or campus, they should immediately be able to determine where to go. On large campuses, directional signage should be located at each point of entrance, and at any fork in the road or intersection, in order to keep visitors on track. If your company is located in a strip mall, or shared building, a sign which names all businesses should be located at the parking lot's entrance. From there, bronze outdoor signs may be used to name specific office suites for fast, easy navigation.

Clean and clear
Is your directional signage easy to read? Large, clean lettering and bold coloring should be utilized so that visitors can quickly locate your business. If your signs have become cracked or faded, it's time for an update. Where necessary, arrows should clearly direct guests to specific buildings or sets of suite numbers so that your clients do not become lost, or waste time searching for your office.

Free from obstructions
Both directional signs and outdoor business signs should always be free from any obstructions. Check your signs regularly to ensure that they have not become blocked by trees, shrubs, etc.
