For the ♥ of Fleets! Fleet Advertising Works for All Company Vehicles

Posted on October 15, 2015 | Posted by Kris Williamson

On a daily basis, we educate people about the value of fleet advertising. Advertising wraps, or mobile billboards, generate at least 30,000 advertising impressions each and every day. You just can't pay somebody to contact that many current and potential customers to tell them about your business! Why not let your vehicles do the talking? Don't worry if you have different vehicles in your fleet. The same design can be adjusted to work for all of your company vehicles. Let me show you how...

At the end of the summer, we featured fleet advertising wraps for Ed's Supply Company as one of our Project of the Week posts. At that time, we had completed the wrap installation on two of the 28' box trucks in the Ed's Supply Co. fleet. This was just the beginning. Since then, we have installed wraps on six more vehicles in their fleet, but they haven't all been 28' box trucks. We've worked with 16' Isuzu box trucks, an F-250 pickup truck and an F-450 flatbed truck.

The beginning. This is the first box truck with the new advertising wrap for Ed's Supply Company.

So how can we take one design and adjust it for so many different types of vehicles? It starts with the artwork. Having the proper format for the artwork makes the transformation relatively simple. Don't get me wrong, it takes time, but it's not like we have to start each one from scratch.

We also rely on the vehicle templates. These provide the correct measurements for the specific year, make and model. The templates let us factor in where handles, headlights, windows and other features are located so that we can adjust the design around or through them.

For Ed's F-250, we used a vehicle template to modify the artwork and create a new design layout. It still provides the same information as the 28' box truck with the same look - and same green color!

Periodically there is a vehicle that doesn't have a matching template. No problem! As long as we can take photographs of the vehicle, our talented graphic designers can scale the photos and create a custom template made just for that make and model. Once we have that, we take the artwork and fit it to the new measurements.

Since we didn't have a template for this 16' Isuzu box truck, we used a photograph to create the design to share with Ed's Supply Company. We also used this proof to create the print files that later became the wrap that we've used on three of their trucks so far.

Since our project with Ed's began with the 28' box trucks, we started right in the middle of the fleet size. We've scaled the design down, and we are in the process of scaling it up for the semi-trailers we will be wrapping in the near future. No matter the size, shape or design, the advertising wrap offers the same look and information on each of the vehicles. This ties the fleet together and, more importantly, strengthens the brand.

This 'before' and 'after' shot shows the old graphics (left) and the new wrap (right) on one of the Ed's Supply Co. 16' box trucks. Drastic change, right? We love how the new design stands out on the road.

For each vehicle in the Ed's Supply Co. fleet, we've removed the old graphics and cleaned the painted areas prior to the installation of the new advertising wrap. This photo shows how the Ford F-450 looked when we first received the truck at our shop.

Nice and clean! We removed the graphics and cleaned the cab to prep it for the new design.

Voila! The new look is complete. Because we only had the cab to work with on this truck, we kept the design simple and in line with the cabs of the other trucks in the fleet.

We've enjoyed watching the transformation of the Ed's vehicles during this rebranding project, and we're not even close to being done! With more trucks (including the semi-trailers) on the way, our printers are printing green just about every week. If you want to know more about how the process works, stop by and see us! You may get to see some of the Ed's vinyl hot off the press.
