Living in what's often referred to as the Bible Belt, we have our fair share of church buildings and worship centers in and around Middle Tennessee. At 12-Point SignWorks, we've had the pleasure of working with many of the congregations in our area, helping them with various signage and vehicle wrap projects. When we are designing signs for places of worship, one necessity remains constant: People need to know where to go. Here's how we make that happen with custom wayfinding signage.
Most buildings are made up of a collection of rooms that satisfy a number of different needs. Although a chapel, auditorium, or sanctuary may be easy to find, other smaller rooms can begin to look the same. We design and fabricate signs that designate where to find the:
- Church office
- Restrooms
- Prayer room
- Nursery
- Classrooms
- Welcome center
- Elevators
- Library
- Church cafe
- And more...
Since most facilities have their own style, we create custom wayfinding signage solutions that fit each individual environment. By using wall, ceiling, and even floor space, we design the signage that best fits the available space.
Wall Graphics
Printed or cut vinyl lettering offers a simple solution for identifying areas and directing traffic to other locations around church buildings. Vinyl material offers a cost-effective fix for helping people navigate around a building and can be customized to the font and color desired.
The wall graphics for Harpeth Christian Church were fabricated using a vinyl material with a high-tack adhesive because of the low-VOC paint that had been applied to the walls. FYI: No- or low-VOC paint can cause adhesion problems for vinyl applications. We counteracted that with a product that works on hard-to-stick surfaces.
Suspended Signage
Suspended signs are another option for directing people around a building. The mounting hardware used for the signage is customized to the type of ceiling in the facility. The graphics can be printed and installed on both sides of the sign, allowing people traveling in both directions to see what's up ahead.
For the hanging sign above, we used a header rail and hanging hardware for easy installation on the drop ceilings in the building.
Projecting Signage
Projecting signs are another two-sided option that offer prime visibility for church members and guests walking down halls and across rooms of a building. The graphics on the signs can be customized to illustrate any room designation desired, including restrooms.
These projecting signs were fabricated on clear acrylic panels with stainless steel wall clamping hardware. To the clear panels, we added black cut vinyl graphics, including the icon for the restroom designations. White cut vinyl was applied over the black for the text.
Floor Signage
Floor signage is ideal for temporary advertisements, signs that need to be moved around, or for information that only needs to be on display at particular times. The custom "traffic" signs below guide parents to the correct place where they need to drop-off or pick-up their children while at church.
We digitally printed the various traffic sign designs and mounted them on 1/4" white PVC with a matte polycarbonate laminate. The signs were installed on posts with weighted bases.
Exterior Post and Panel Signage
Don't forget what folks see on the outside! Just coming into a church building or worship center can be confusing. Post and panel wayfinding signage guides people to the entry doors that will take them where they need to go. Depending on where they are located, the other side of the sign also can offer directional information or can provide a friendly message for those leaving the campus.
Post and panel signs can be located in parking lots or just outside the building.
These are just samples of the endless designs you can use to help people navigate around your location. For even more flexibility, you also can incorporate A-frame signage into your collection of wayfinding methods.
