The Predicament: Community Food Advocates needed to renovate a food truck for their Nashville Mobile Market.
The Solution: We met with a representative of the organization and made suggestions on how to transform the food truck into something extra special. After a consultation, some paint, a finished custom design, and a wrap installation, the suggestions became a reality!
Sometimes our projects open our eyes to more than just custom designs, vinyl material and wrap installations. This project for Community Food Advocates was one such project. When a representative for the organization came in to discuss a partial advertising wrap for a new food truck, we simply were planning to discuss design layout and coverage area. Surprisingly, we finished the meeting with a greater awareness of some really amazing work happening in Middle Tennessee.

Community Food Advocates (CFA) is a non-profit organization working to end hunger by creating a healthy, just, and sustainable food system. Formed in 2009, CFA is the product of a merger between Manna and Food Security Partners of Middle Tennessee. The amazing people who make up this organization have the same goal: All members of our community should have access to food grown in a way that promotes the health of people, planet and community.
Now back to the project! CFA was referred to us by another sign company that doesn't dabble in vehicle wraps. (We are thankful for fellow sign friends like that!) We started the project by meeting with the CFA rep for a consultation. We saw photos of the truck (in its pre-wrap state) and discussed the desired wrap design.
The 'before'. Can you believe the transformation?
Originally, CFA wanted us to wrap the entire truck in yellow and then install the contour cut graphics. The cost for such a large wrap job (including all of the hardware and small details) was going to be a bit higher than CFA wanted. Since the funds for the food truck were generously donated to CFA by Tyson Foods as a part of their KNOW Hunger Nashville project with the Urban League of Middle Tennessee, they wanted to stay within a particular budget. In order to reduce their cost, we suggested that they start by getting the truck painted yellow. After the paint had plenty of time to dry, we could take over and install the partial wrap. CFA liked that idea!
Once the paint cured, we received the bright and sunny truck and prepped it for the wrap. The CFA rep's daughter created the fun design for the wrap so Rich just had to make a few small adjustments to adapt the design to the truck's measurements and to match the yellow color on the graphics so that they would blend with the new paint color. Once we had the graphics printed and laminated, we cut the vinyl to follow the lines of the fruits and veggies.
In the photo above, you can see the lines of the cut vinyl around the fruits and veggies. The yellows of the paint and vinyl blend so well that you can't tell where the paint ends and the vinyl begins unless you are looking closely at the truck.
Wow! That's all you can say when you see the difference a little paint and vinyl can make on a food truck. This truck makes a statement while it's on the road helping our neighbors.
One thing that sets us apart from many other wrap installers is our attention to detail. We pay close attention to all of the little pieces that tend to get unnoticed - just like the trim pieces around the rear tail lights on this food truck. The pattern from trim to truck matches perfectly, which can be challenging when the pieces are small and rounded or angled. We also take care to match the letters and lines in any graphics or words that cross over door openings or trim lines. You can see some of the intricate details in the photo to the right.
We were so excited to see this food truck come together. CFA revealed the new truck on June 11th at the Parthenon Towers in downtown Nashville. Not only did they show-off the new Mobile Market, they also put it to work! You can see more coverage of the CFA food truck and the blessings it brings by viewing the story from Channel 4 News/WSMV.com below. It's definitely worth watching!
We know that the colorful design on the CFA food truck will attract attention while it's on the road making a difference! CFA offers a number of amazing programs that all focus on changing lives for the better. Some of them include:
- Helping low-income families connect with benefits that increase grocery affordability
- Promoting healthy, local foods within the Metro Nashville Public School System
- Providing volunteer opportunities for the community
- Offering the Mobile Market to neighborhoods that otherwise have limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables
