A few months ago, we received an email inquiry from a representative of Lancaster Christian Academy in Smyrna, Tennessee. The school needed two signs for their school, and they wanted to use their logo. At the time of the request, they weren't sure if they wanted the signs to be made of glass with the logo etched in, or if they wanted to have the signs made out of acrylic in their school colors. After seeing the logo for the school, and knowing that these would be viewed by students from kindergarten through high school (and their families), using the bright colors of the logo was the obvious choice.
Since the signs hang in a youthful and educational environment, we wanted to be creative with the design. We designed a proof that used our standard acrylic colors and layers of clear and white acrylic to achieve a dimensional look.
The proof for the LCA logo signs. The colors are so cheerful for a school environment.
We recently posted a blog showing the differences between a sign proof and the actual installed signage. The fact is: sometimes it's hard to really picture what the sign will look like. That's ok! We can provide options to help you visualize the final product. For the LCA project, the representative came to our shop to look at the materials and see the standard acrylic colors in person. She wanted to review the proof and get a true sense of how the signs would look. We were able to use our acrylic samples to show her the color options and also to demonstrate the layered, dimensional style. She loved it!
We often design acrylic logo signs that are mounted onto an acrylic backer or panel that attaches to the wall. The backer frequently has a square or rectangular shape. To maintain the creative approach with this project, and to maximize the size of the actual logo, we router cut 1/4" clear acrylic backers into the shape of the logo. The clear acrylic was cut just a little bigger so that it could peek out from behind the colors of the logo.
If you look at the edges of the red acrylic, you can see the clear acrylic just peeking out. The clear acrylic provides more dimension to the sign. Wondering about the wood behind the sign? That's just part of our display wall in our shop where we had one of the signs hanging.
Using the standard colors in the logo, we laser cut the acrylic and bonded it to the clear pieces. We then mounted the white acrylic letters onto the colored pieces to complete the logo. Once the signs were finished, one of our team members transported them to the school and installed them on the walls at the two entrances. We used hanging hardware that could be hidden from view but still provides excellent strength. These signs aren't going anywhere!
We are always curious about how our customers feel about the signs that we create. We appreciate feedback, and our friends at LCA were kind enough to email us this note:
Our logo signs were installed yesterday, and we are thrilled with how they turned out. The signs really pop at our two entrances to our school, and we couldn't be happier with the entire process working with you all. Thank you again and have a great rest of your summer!
If you are curious about Lancaster Christian Academy, you can check out more about the school here. They offer educational opportunities for children from 6 weeks of age through their Senior year. Their history is quite remarkable too! They originally opened in 1997 as a school for ten children in a small house on Maple Drive. I would say that they have grown quite a bit since then!
