When we were contacted by the Admissions Office for Lipscomb University, they already knew the look that they wanted for a logo sign in their reception area. Most signs around campus have a bright, shiny metal finish. The Admissions Office wanted something different: matte black aluminum. We worked with them to fabricate and install an anodized aluminum sign that incorporated everything they wanted.
Lipscomb University is a Christian institution in Nashville that was founded in 1891 by David Lipscomb and James A. Harding. Originally known as Nashville Bible School, the name changed to David Lipscomb College in 1918 and received its most recent name in 1988. This top-ranked private university has over 4,500 students enrolled, and each student is educated academically and spiritually.
The Admissions Office wanted three main features for their new custom logo sign: metal, matte black and cut out pieces. We worked with them to produce the perfect combination, using flat cut anodized aluminum with a brushed, black finish. We scaled the logo to fit a 48" wide space on the reception wall.
The logo was fabricated as separate pieces, which included the individual letters and the five pieces of the logo's brandmark.
The close-up of the sign shows the vertical grain of the brushed metal.
Using a template, we installed the individual pieces onto the drywall area behind the reception desk. Due to the size and weight of the larger pieces, we stud mounted them to the drywall. The smaller pieces were installed using very high bond (VHB) adhesive strips.
