We took our custom vinyl wrap skills to new heights and breadths the week before Christmas by covering a construction barricade wall with custom graphics. The plain vanilla wall was transformed into an oversized wall mural advertising the coming of a new Moe's Southwest Grill restaurant.
We've worked with Moe's of Middle-TN several times in the past when we have created custom vinyl vehicle wraps to create fleet advertising graphics for their catering service vehicles. When the owner contacted us to see if we'd be interested in tackling the wall wrap, we were excited to have the opportunity to work on it!
It's typical when working in a public space such as a mall that work like this be conducted after business hours. As a result, our installation had to occur starting at approximately 11PM and ending by 11AM. Once the initial lower barricade panels had been placed, we began by cleaning the panels with dust mops saturated with isopropyl alcohol to remove dust, dirt, and oils that would contaminate the wall wrap vinyl's adhesive. We were able to hang the lower half of the graphics using a rolling scaffold
A typical vehicle wrap can be a few hundred square feet of coverage using a premium, conformable wrap vinyl with a protective UV laminate. The car wrap vinyl material is very stretchy and has an air release feature in the adhesive to aid in the application. In contrast, this custom wallcovering wrap was for nearly 3,000 square feet of coverage using a relatively thick vinyl with an aggressive removable adhesive suitable for flat surfaces. Given the short term nature of the indoor application (2 months), the printed vinyl did not need any protective laminate.
When we print vehicle wraps, we use high quality printer settings to minimize printing defects such as "banding." For a large scale project such as the barricade wall wrap, the print vinyl material worked well with a faster printer setting that was appropriate for graphics intended to be seen as a large oversized canvas. The artwork used high resolution text and images, and the brand colors all looked terrific printed at this scale.
Installing the upper half of the wall mural graphics required the use of an electric scissor lift. The total wall height was nearly 24', and the multi-segment wall had a total length of approximately 124'.
Cooperation between our graphics company, the barricade company, the general contractor, and mall personnel was critical to a successful installation, and we were pleased with how well all parties collaborated to get the barricade and wall wrap in place.
