When Franklin Synergy Bank prepared to open a new branch in the Westhaven community of Franklin, TN, the marketing department knew that the branch's exterior logo sign would need to look terrific AND satisfy the requirements of the property lease. A sandblasted redwood sign was chosen as the preferred approach to accomplishing this goal.
The finish of the building exterior created some interesting opportunities to customize this outdoor logo sign. The property lease required that the sign have a border, although the client's original concept did not include a border with the concern that it would take away from the logo. A compromise was to fabricate the sign with a border and to paint it to match the other painted wood components of the building's front elevation.
The new branch's front entrance includes an attractive stone archway. The challenge for the logo sign concept was to develop a sign that would work with this archway (kudos to our client at the bank who developed this concept). We took physical measurements so that we could more closely match the irregular shape of this arch (it was not symmetric) when cutting the wood for the sign.
In order to fabricate the sign, a masking layer was designed and cut to protect those areas of the wood face that we did not want to be affected by the eroding effect of the sandblasting process. As a result the border, text, and pineapple logo remained flat faced while the wood around these features was eroded away by the sandblasting. The sign was then stained and painted.
As you can imagine, attaching a 14' wide sandblasted redwood logo sign onto an irregular stone wall was a challenge, but we were able to devise a hanging system for it that left the client assured that the sign would be secure.
Sandblasting as a process to create redwood logo signs creates a unique look, but the ability of sandblasting to recreate small features consistently is a tough thing to accomplish. You'll want to be sure to identify for us which features in your artwork are most important and which can be modified to fit better.
Sandblasted redwood logo signs can be either stained, painted, or both. The exterior dimensional logo sign shown in these comments was stained and had a painted border and letters + logo. The background of this particular logo sign for Franklin Synergy was stained to match the stain color on the suite's front doors. Although staining the sign's wooden sructure shows the true grain of a piece of wood, there is the likelihood of increased maintenance with a stained finish as opposed to a painted finish. We recommend painting the sandblasted logo sign background to look like a piece of wood but without the penalty.
We enjoyed the challenge this unique dimensional logo sign posed - are you ready to consider one for your business?
