We love working with law firms. They always choose the classiest looking signs! This last week we put up a brand spanking new lobby sign and sign letters for Russ Cook & Associates in Brentwood, TN.
Russ Cook & Associates is a boutique law firm that specializes in estate planning, estate and trust administration, and business planning. Put together, their employees have over 50 years of legal experience! They are moving into a larger suite in their building and were looking for a sturdy and beautiful sign to show off their logo and name in their lobby that will last them for years to come. They knew that they really liked the look and feel of real copper, but that it might be challenging to etch their intricate logo design into metal.
The logo for Russ Cook & Associates
We separated the logo graphic from the letters in their name to make it easier to create and install the sign. The logo graphic is made from 1/4" cut brushed copper. The disk was cut out using a waterjet, which is a combination of extremely high pressure water and silica shot through a nozzle with enough strength to cut through metal. The design was then etched out of the copper by placing chemicals where there needed to be relief taken out of the shapes. After enough of the shape has been taken out by the chemicals, a neutralizing agent is put on over the disk to stop the chemicals from eating into the metal. Black paint was then applied to the inner part of the etched design, making the copper details stand out. The whole thing was then covered in a clear sealant to protect the face of the sign from any damage from people or things accidentally brushing up against it.
That's one solid sign, right there!
Because we used actual copper instead of substitute materials, the sign is really sturdy and should last them for a very long time. The logo alone weighs 45 pounds! In addition to their logo, the sign lettering for their name is cut out of brushed copper with a clear coat to protect the finish.
Two of our guys were easily able to install this sign using the wall's studs and a little adhesive for the letters. It's now up in their new lobby for all the world to see!
