12-Point SignWorks' Fastest Color Change Wrap!

A couple of weeks ago we got the assignment to do a full vehicle wrap on a brand new Infiniti Q60 Coupe from Nissan USA. The Coupe is a test race car for Infiniti to test out the new car's performance capabilities.

Because it's a test car, that means the interior was stripped down to the bare necessities just like any other race car. This one just had one bucket seat for the driver, all the bells and whistles that made it go, and nothing else.

The design for the wrap came from a company in California and we had two installers, Rich and Ian, wrap the vehicle in satin black 3M 1080 wrap vinyl. The paint job on the car was a really nice subtle red color that was so deep it appeared to be black until you looked at it up close, so the satin black complemented it really well.

We had a really tight deadline because the car had to be taken out to testing tracks to be raced pretty soon after it arrived at our shop. Rich and Ian were able to finish it in around 36 hours, which is the fastest we've ever wrapped a full coverage color change wrap! Color change wraps, also known as "paint wraps", often take longer than advertising wraps because installers have to disassemble parts of the vehicle like lights, wheel wells, and spoilers to make sure the vinyl appears to be seamless and doesn't leave any of the original paint exposed.

This vehicle had to have a lot of minor disassembling and reassembling because it had a lot of after market parts like spoilers and other accent pieces. Because it's sponsored by Red Bull, we printed the Red Bull and Infiniti livery in Avery 1005 vinyl to apply to the sides of the Coupe. Rich also added hand-made silver accent stripes that run across the top of the Coupe. Because what's a race car without stripes?

It was challenging to finish it all within the time-crunch but it turned out really well! We're not exactly sure where it's been shipped off to first (someone thought it was going to be raced in Austin, TX this week?), but one thing's for sure—this is a really cool car. It has a lot of power. Rich actually had a hard time just pulling the car slowly into the garage because it's so powerful and sensitive.
