If you live in or around the Nashville area like us, then you probably know about the summertime staple, Retro Sno. Retro Sno is a food truck that sells heaven in a cardboard cup during the hot summer months. That heaven is a flavorful Snoball made by shaving ice instead of crushing it! The process makes a light fluffy Snoball that Retro Sno flavors with its own creative and rotating menu of syrups.
Retro Sno's logo (not designed by us) is a great representation of their brand!
We already did Retro Sno's original food truck wrap for their first truck (named "Razz" after one of their most popular flavors), but as they expanded it was time for a second truck and a second wrap! The second truck was much larger than the first at about 23 feet long.
The Snoball graphics on the front of the truck are a really fun accent.
The wrap had to be completed with a very quick turnaround because the owners of Retro Sno were unveiling the new truck two days after they brought in the freshly painted vehicle for us to work on. The darker teal base color is painted on the vehicle while the lighter teal stripes, red and white accents, logos, and Snoball graphics are all either cut or printed from vinyl wrap film.
Mike and Harry situate the stripes on the new truck.
Probably the most difficult aspect of this wrap was keeping the lines uniform on both sides of the truck. The guys were able to do it by taking careful measurements and using a level to make sure all the stripes were uniform. Since our original design was for their first smaller truck, part of doing this wrap was a series of mocking up and tweaking the placement of the logo. Rich, one of our designers and wrap installers, would mock up a section of the truck and send pictures of it to Morgan, one of the co-owners of Retro Sno, for her approval. We really appreciated them taking time to communicate and help us out while they were very busy setting up for their anniversary celebration!
The truck was picked up late Friday night for their event on Saturday (phew!) and it looked smashing! Retro Sno's new truck (named "tres" inspired by the "tres leches" flavor in a suggestion posed in Twitter contest where fans of Retro Sno submitted name ideas in hopes of winning a season's worth of Snoballs) was revealed on May 3 in Centennial Park at the Tennessee Craft Fair. The day marked the second anniversary of the Snoball truck, which they had people posting about online with the hashtag #retroturns2. Lines snaked around the park as people happily stood and waited for delicious Snoballs on the beautiful spring day.
Tres is lookin' good!
Thanks to Retro Sno for letting us be a part of what is becoming a Nashville icon! We wish them success and recommend that anyone living in or passing through the area give them a try. There's nothing better than a Snoball on a Tennessee summer's day!
