Recently, we were contacted by Robert Gross with By Dyzne to help create a dimensional logo sign for Acuff & Associates. Acuff & Associates is an actuarial and employee benefits consulting firm that has provided valuable advice and quality service to their clients since 1991. They have three locations in Tennessee (Brentwood, Memphis and Knoxville) and one additional location in Shreveport, Louisiana. We were asked to fabricate the sign for their Brentwood and Memphis locations.
Although we often design signs based on a general concept or idea that a client brings to us, we also are happy to accept and work with the creative designs of others. In this case, Robert already had drawn a number of sketches, showing various ideas for Acuff & Associate's combination mark logo.

It's so neat to see the creative process in action!
We were able to take Robert's ideas and, along with him, design a custom dimensional logo sign for Acuff & Associates that combined many of his original thoughts. For the sign, we used a 30" x 30" x 1/4" thick frosted acrylic panel. We used 1/4" gloss black acrylic for the logo and the wordmark. For the lines above and below 'Acuff & Associates', we used 1/8" thick gloss black acrylic.
Since the company's colors are black and copper, we needed a way to incorporate the copper color into the logo design. Although we could have used actual copper, it can become a bit expensive to use in signage. Luckily, acrylic is a very useful and cost-effective material! We are fortunate to have the ability to use many standard colors of acrylic and also to paint the acrylic to match specific colors not already available. For the copper color, our very own Felix had the perfect solution. He just happened to have the perfect color for the copper in his personal paint supply. To top it off, he also is very talented with an airbrush gun and has one of his own. Felix custom airbrushed the wordmark and a portion of the logo in the metallic copper paint.
Here is a close-up view of part of the lettering and the logo after Felix had painted them.
The copper color really makes a statement! The rest of the sign still has protective paper
on it to prevent the gloss black finish from getting scratched. We always try to
keep the paper on the sign pieces until they are installed.
All of the pieces were applied to the frosted acrylic panel with VHB (very high bond) adhesive tape. To mount the sign to the wall, we used 1" metal standoff hardware, one per corner, that Felix also custom painted in the metallic copper. The painted standoffs really tie the elements of the sign together!
One of the completed and installed signs! This sign is in the Memphis location.
Since we are located a few hours from Memphis, we carefully packaged and shipped the sign to that location where we recommended an installer to hang the sign in the office. (Since we ship to just about anywhere in the continental US, we try to recommend trusted installers when we can!) Josh, one of our talented team members, installed the sign for the office in Brentwood. Before he could place the new sign, he had to remove the previous sign from the wall in the office. He said that it was a very heavy sign with a copper frame and a granite inlay. According to Josh, the new dimensional logo sign "really modernizes and updates the look" in the Brentwood office. He said the response was really positive and that the new sign looks great!
