If you are looking for a company that truly knows how to treat their clients, employees, and employers with appreciation and kindness, Choate Construction is the company for you. (I'd like to add 12-Point SignWorks to that list as well!) Choate Construction, with five locations throughout the Southeast, recently celebrated their 25th Anniversary. In a statement on their website, the company honors the 'fine people' that make up the Choate Family as the reason for their success. They also acknowledge their vendors and subcontractors, as well as their client, architect and engineer friends. A few clicks around their website, and you will see that Choate Construction values all of the people that have made them successful!

We have had the pleasure of working with Choate Construction on a number of projects, and their projects emphasize the goodness of this company! For this Project of the Week, Choate Construction approached us to create a custom acrylic display plaque. What makes an acrylic plaque so special, you ask? This acrylic display is actually a gift that the company is presenting to Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) at the completion of a large building project. Yes, you read that correctly! Choate Construction is doing a large building project for FDTC, and they are giving FDTC a thank you gift at the completion of the project. Extremely thoughtful, right?

Choate Construction thank you gift for FDTC at the completion of a large building project. 12-Point SignWorksChoate Construction didn't want to present a typical 'thank you' gift to FDTC. They wanted something unique, classy and personal, which is what makes this company so special!

For the gift, we back printed a photo of the FDTC building and the signatures of all Choate Construction employees involved in the project onto a 20" x 18" x 1/4" piece of clear acrylic. Chuck, our Senior Project Manager (and guru of all signage), flooded the print with white ink to really make it 'POP' on the acrylic. He also adjusted the ink levels of the signatures to enhance the personal writing techniques of each Choate employee. He did this to add to the authenticity of the signatures, making it look like the employees actually signed the acrylic piece. Since the photo and signatures were printed on the back of the acrylic (or second surface), they will not be wiped off or damaged with light cleaning.

To the front of the acrylic display, we adhered a 7" x 5.5" rowmark laser etched plaque and a 4" x 4" rowmark laser etched logo. Rowmark is sheet plastic that is suitable for laser or rotary engraving and comes in a variety of colors. For this project, we used a brushed metal rowmark to add to the clean and classy look. The plaque, once again, shows the kindness of Choate Construction by congratulating them, thanking them, and wishing them the best. The logo, which can be seen in the photo above, is the brandmark for Florence-Darlington Technical College.

The template Chuck used to properly place the logo and plaque on the display. 12-Point SignWorksChuck relied on the yellow template above to place the logo and plaque in their precise locations.

The display piece will be mounted to the wall with four 1" etched aluminum standoffs. The standoffs will distance the plaque from the wall just a little, which will give the signatures a shadowy effect and really add to the unique and contemporary look of the display.

From what we have experienced while working with them, Choate Construction truly lives up to the Core Values that they feature on their website. I believe that Chuck stated it best: It is awesome that they do this. They go the extra step to let their clients know that they appreciate them. We all agree, and their employees must think so too. We actually created a display that the employees designed for their "Big Cheese" in honor of the 25th Anniversary of the company. When employees do something like that for you, you must be doing something right!
