Although we fabricate signage for businesses and organizations nationwide, we truly enjoy our projects much closer to home. We are fortunate to partner with the Williamson County School District of Tennessee on a number of projects at elementary, middle and high schools around our county. Can I brag about our talented youth and educators for a minute? The students in our county consistently earn achievement scores that rank among the highest in Tennessee. We are thankful to the wonderful teachers and staff who work so hard to successfully educate and guide our youth from pre-K through high school.
Now back to our current Project of the Week! Over the last few years, we have fabricated and installed wall mural architectural displays for the cafeterias in a number of middle schools in our district. The displays for the schools consist of two different designs previously created by one of our talented 12-Point SignWorks graphic designers. The goal of the layouts is to focus on healthy food and healthy living themes while portraying active student life. The graphics were designed in a way that looks like they were drawn by hand, incorporating bright and lively colors. (Hopefully the murals will subliminally encourage our kids to add a few more healthy items to their trays while walking through that cafeteria line!)
One of the two designs used for the architectural display systems in the middle schools around the county. This design focuses on student life for the older students as they approach their high school years.
This is the second design displayed in the middle school cafeterias, featuring a representation of student life for the younger students.
Each design was originally divided into nine separate acrylic panels installed on rods; however, we adjusted the design to fit the 21 individual panels after a Williamson County Schools representative saw another project that we had completed with the cable suspension system.
This shows one of the designs installed with the original nine panel display.
Page Middle School (PMS) was the most recent recipient of the cable suspension display systems. With the already vibrant paint colors on the walls of the PMS cafeteria, the addition of the wall murals really energizes the space.

It looks great against the bright walls!
Now for the details! Each wall mural fills a four foot high by eight foot wide space in the cafeteria. The display system consists of two 8-foot aluminum C channels attached directly to the wall. The aluminum pieces are spaced four feet apart with eight cables running vertically from one piece to the other. Three acrylic panels are strategically placed between each set of cables, and they are secured with side grip hardware that clamps onto both the cable and the panel.
This close-up view shows the cables and the side grip hardware that secure the acrylic panels in place. It does take some time to get everything perfectly spaced and
installed just right.
Each glossy, clear acrylic panel is 1/8" thick with the section of the graphic digitally printed on the back side (or second surface). Printing on the back side of the acrylic panels protects the graphics from small hands and extra grime that could come into contact with the mural. The printing technique also allows for easy cleaning of the front surface without the chance of scratching or damaging the graphics.
We are always ready to try something new, and the use of architectural hardware gives us the opportunity to create truly unique displays. Are you looking for a wall mural or display system that will really stand out on your wall? Let us help you with the design! Contact us today to get started.
