12-Point SignWorks' Signage Projects Of The Week

New Signage for the Tennessee Wildlife Federation Expansion

Posted on February 16, 2015 | Posted by Kris Williamson

One of the perks of our business is getting to know more about and create relationships with our fellow Middle Tennessee businesses and organizations. One organization we've had the pleasure of working with is the Tennessee Wildlife Federation (TWF). TWF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded on February 12, 1946, as the Tennessee Conservation League in Chattanooga. At that time, 53 outdoor writers and community leaders from around Tennessee came together to restore the integrity of all of Tennessee's wildlife and natural resources (www.tnwf.org/about-us/our-history). Membership quickly grew to several thousand people within just a few years, including hunters, hikers, gardeners and other outdoor enthusiasts. TWF continues to thrive today as the largest and oldest organization in Tennessee focused on the conservation of our beautiful wildlife and natural resources.

Recently, we were asked to fabricate and install signage for an expansion at the TWF headquarters in Nashville. We created three different signs for the interior and exterior of the new space. Our installation took place the day before the Grand Opening of the expanded space, and we were able to see the entire building really become unified with the TWF identity.

One of three signs we installed for the TWF expansion.

The first sign we fabricated was installed in the TWF conference room. This custom dimensional interior sign has 1/2" thick laser cut acrylic pieces that make up the TWF logo. The clear acrylic pieces were hand painted with the signature TWF copper and tan logo colors.

We used a template to mount the pieces of the sign to the wall of the conference room. The template stuck to the wall with a very light adhesive that was easily removed without damaging the wall. Once the template was in place, our team fastened the logo pieces and letters to the wall with very high bond (VHB) adhesive tabs. HINT: We recommend, when using the VHB tabs, that the wall is not painted with a low-VOC or zero-VOC paint, which can cause adhesion problems.

The second sign is a 1/4" thick clear acrylic sign that was installed in the lobby area. We digitally printed and plotter cut a two color vinyl TWF logo that was applied to the second surface (or back side) of the clear acrylic square piece. The second surface application protects the vinyl from damage and normal wear-and-tear from cleaning.

The third sign we fabricated is an exterior sign that really stands out on the red brick as you approach the front door of the building. The 1/8" thick gloss black acyclic sign has a digitally printed and plotter cut TWF logo applied to the first surface (or front side). Similar to the interior acrylic sign, we used standoff hardware to mount the sign to the brick exterior.

We think this exterior logo sign (with the TWF street number) looks fantastic against the red brick of the building's exterior.

We really enjoyed seeing how all of the signs came together in the new space. As a non-profit organization, TWF runs on a very well-managed budget. We think the acrylic signage they used for their expansion fit their budget while looking very polished and professional...and outdoorsy!

If you enjoy the outdoors, you will appreciate the work done by TWF. From conservation to education, TWF advocates for the conservation, sound management, and sustainable use of Tennessee's wildlife and natural resources. One of the organizations programs, Hunters for the Hungry, connects local hunters and game processors with our area food banks and soup kitchens to provide food for thousands of our fellow Tennesseans. Since 1998, the program has provided nearly four million meals! This is just one of many programs TWF oversees as part of their mission.
