A Full Vehicle Advertising Wrap for Buddy Box Portable Storage

Posted on February 23, 2015 | Posted by Kris Williamson

Buddy Box Portable Storage is a privately owned business based out of North Alabama. If you are located in North Alabama or may be moving that way, "You Gotta Get A Buddy Box!" Lucky for us, Buddy Carter, owner of Buddy Box, is planning to expand the business into Middle Tennessee. With the quality of his storage units, we know the residents of our area would benefit from his product. Buddy Box Portable Storage Units are built from 26 gauge galvanized steel with solid, 1" thick bamboo floors and sealed double doors. The double doors offer more convenient entry and include the industry's best locking system available.

Although Buddy Box isn't available in our area...yet, we were happy to receive a request from Buddy to design and install a full coverage vehicle advertising wrap for his Ford F-250 XL Super Cab.

The full coverage advertising wrap we designed and installed for Buddy Box. 12-Point SignWorksDoesn't this wrap look fantastic?! Buddy wanted something "eye-catching but not so busy that people don't get the message." I think this wrap relays his message and product perfectly!

We originally communicated by email, and then we set-up a time for Buddy to meet with Rich in our office. Buddy sent us all of his thoughts and ideas for his wrap, along with his logo file and a photo of one of the storage units. Rich was able to have a true understanding of what Buddy wanted for his truck before he even set foot in our office. Some of the items Buddy wanted include the following:

  • The inclusion of the royal blue brand color
  • A dimensional texture such as carbon fiber (You can see this, along with a ghosted storage box pattern, in the blue background of the truck.)
  • Shading of the blue color if possible
  • A very legible and not too busy script
  • Displaying 'Buddy Box' with large white block lettering on the two doors
  • Prominent use of the website and phone number
  • A visual display of the actual storage unit
  • Using the Buddy Box logo on the hood of the truck with a white background
  • An informational tailgate

The vision that Buddy already had for his truck wrap really helped Rich capture every detail in just two revisions. All of this creative work falls under our design fee. When a customer comes to us without an advertising design, this fee covers the consultation and up to two revisions. Once the design is complete, we move on to the prepping, printing and installation of the actual wrap.

You also can see the photo of an actual Buddy Box portable storage unit. The wrap design is informative without being too overwhelming.

Looking for the material details for this advertising wrap? Here you go! For the body of the truck, we digitally printed the custom design on Avery MPI 1005 EZ vinyl with an Avery DOL 1060 gloss overlaminate. The Avery MPI 1005 is our standard (yet premium) material that we use for vehicle graphics and wraps. The Avery DOL 1060 offers protection from scratches while enhancing the colors in the graphics. This overlaminate is known for its outstanding durability and outdoor performance. It's also UV, temperature and humidity resistant, which provides extra protection for colorful graphics - just like the bold brand colors for Buddy Box!

Some details of the advertising wrap for Buddy Box Portable Storage. 12-Point SignWorksEvery detail of this design comes from the original vision of the business owner, Buddy Carter. Rich took his ideas and made them a reality!

For the back window, we digitally printed the Buddy Box logo and website address on Oracal 3675 Perforated Window Film. With a three year rating, this film has the longest durability of any perforated window vinyl on the market. The perforated film, unlike the regular, non-perforated vinyl on the rest of the truck, has thousands of microscopic holes on 50% of its surface. This allows the design to continue across the back of the truck without blocking the visibility from the inside out.

After printing the perforated window film, we applied the Oracal ORAGUARD 290GF Optically Clear Premium Cast Overlaminate. The Oracal 290GF overlaminate protects the perforated window vinyl from humidity, dust and other contaminates. We prefer the Oracal 290GF overlaminate because it has the longest life span (when compared to other manufacturers) and does a fabulous job of preventing haze on the window. We have found that some installers do not laminate the perforated window vinyl, which causes the printed graphics to fade faster. When not laminated, the perforations can also collect dirt and water, which eventually results in reduced visibility for the driver. We definitely don't want that to happen!

As we do with many of our wraps, we used knifeless tape during the installation. The knifeless tape provides a clean termination line for hard to reach areas. For this truck, we used it where the cab meets the bed to guarantee we had a nice, smooth line. After pulling up the knifeless tape, we trapped the edges with optically clear edge tape, creating a tight seal for the vinyl.

Because Buddy spends most of his time in Northern Alabama, we had a shortened window of time for installation. Our team worked hard, and the truck turned out great! We especially like the bold statement made by Buddy's red, white and blue brand colors. We know his truck and his product will be noticed on the road.
