We’ve put a custom advertising wrap on a few school buses in our time, but this Project of the Week is about a school bus with a special mission beyond the schoolhouse walls. Childhood literacy is essential to our younger generation's growth, education, and development. And thanks to a grant from the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation, Cheatham County is now one of several proud members of the Book Bus program.

Getting Started

The sole purpose of the Cheatham County Book Bus program is to encourage reading and literacy while also providing STEAM opportunities for the students in our community. Cheatham County received a decommissioned school bus from the transportation office, which will also generously provide continued maintenance for the Book Bus. Cheatham County students were an integral part of the book bus. Students in the Cheatham Central High School automotive program assisted with removing the seats and putting a fresh coat of paint to kickstart the renovation process. Students in the Digital Design classes at Sycamore High School designed the graphics, while some engineering students helped design the interior. And that’s when we came in….

Book Bus Custom Wrap

Usually our custom advertising wraps are for companies looking to draw in more customers or boost their brand recognition. In this case, we created this wrap for the Cheatham County Book Bus project to advertise the importance of reading.

Given the size of the school bus we were wrapping, this project required all hands on deck.

Besides the roof, windshield, and tires, every inch of the bus was custom wrapped. Even the windows along the sides were covered using custom printed perforated vinyl with a protective UV gloss laminate. The wrap’s graphics reference the Bicentennial Trail Bridge and the beautiful green rolling hills for which this area is known. We completed the design by adding a relevant quote: “The more that you read, the more things you will know.”

This custom wrap has been a fun project, and we’re honored to have been a part of growing the Book Bus program.

The Book Bus Program

As mentioned above, the primary purpose of the Book Bus program is to improve childhood literacy. However, Cheatham County combined two additional areas of importance (and FUN!) to the program. In addition to encouraging reading, they’re also promoting STEAM projects and providing summer meals and snacks to the community. Throughout June and into July, the program will visit six different Cheatham County locations, each with a different theme: Plants, Gardens, & Natural Resources, Health & Wellness, STEAM Explorers, Careers, and Blocks & Bricks. Every child attending will receive lunches and snacks from the Second Harvest Food Bank and Cheatham County Summer School staff. The Cheatham County Book Bus is around all summer, and they plan on expanding the reading program throughout the year. We are so honored to have been part of this process with them!
