12-Point SignWorks' Signage Projects Of The Week

Celebrating the Season of Giving with Cut Vinyl Graphics for JCPenney

Posted on November 24, 2015 | Posted by Kris Williamson

We’ve had the opportunity to work with customers for special events. From a Super Bowl piano wrap to a custom cranial orthotic helmet wrap, we’ve been blessed to share in remarkable moments. In September of this year, we received a call that introduced us to a project that changes the lives of our country’s heroes – the veterans who have given so much to serve our country and defend our freedom.

The call came from a JCPenney representative who needed assistance with vinyl graphics for a box truck that was being featured in a video series.  The box truck, which was a rental, had some decals advertising the rental company. We worked with JCPenney to determine the best option to make the truck presentable for the video shoot.

Here’s a shot of the completed truck.

JCPenney provided the artwork for us to use, and we digitally printed and contour cut vinyl graphics for the sides and rear of the box, as well as the driver and passenger doors. We used blockout vinyl to hide the rental truck information and installed the decals to brand the truck for JCPenney.

The blockout vinyl hides the rental truck information so that it looks clean in the video shoot.

The video shoot, however, was not just a feature presentation for JCPenney. It was MUCH bigger. It was part of Southern Living's “Building Hope”, an original video series documenting the inspiring journeys of five veterans as they settle into new, mortgage-free homes and are met with overwhelming gratitude from their Southern communities. The series -- a collaborative effort between Southern Living, the nonprofit Operation FINALLY HOME and JCPenney -- was created to honor and support the courageous service of veterans and their families.

Out of the five finalists, one was from our very own Tennessee! U.S. Army Sgt. First Class (E-7) Joseph James and his family were presented with their home in Hendersonville – right here in Middle Tennessee. The James family’s five minute episode originally aired on SouthernLiving.com on November 2, and was followed by two JCPenney commercials featuring them in the “Building Hope” series, which aired during “The 49th Annual CMA Awards” on November 4.  You can read more about SFC Joseph James’ story on the Operation FINALLY HOME website and by watching this video about the James family. You also can see the emotional moment when they found out they were getting a new home in this video. (Keep the tissues close…and maybe an umbrella!)

The home, a labor of love by Operation FINALLY HOME, JCPenney, Goodall Homes, interior designer Melissa Sisk (ShopGirl), and countless volunteers, was personally designed to meet the exact needs of the James family. JCPenney generously furnished rooms in the new home, using a variety of items from their JCPenney Home Collections.

You can watch Southern Living, JCPenney and their volunteers work with Melissa Sisk to get the home completely furnished in just 24 hours. Amazing! In this video, there is a glimpse of the truck too! By the way – the home is gorgeous, colorful, elegant, functional and just perfect.

Country music singer Cole Swindell also makes an appearance in the James family’s “Building Hope” episode and JCPenney commercial when he surprises the family with tickets to attend the CMA Awards. (Watch the entire thing...You can see the truck at the end of the commercial.) Both Joseph and Jarin attended the CMAs as Cole’s guests and wore outfits courtesy of JCPenney. The story just keeps getting better!

We are proud to have been even just a small part of this amazing project. If you, or a veteran you know, are interested in the program and wish to become a homeowner through this amazing, life-changing program, please visit Operation FINALLY HOME to learn more. Be sure to read about the other veterans who have been touched by this program as well!
