Our latest Project of the Week began with an inquiry from Legacy Law Group (LLG) back in May of this year. They wanted a lobby sign for their new office in Brentwood, Tennessee. On their website, business cards, and other branding items, they use an image of a tree with their logo. LLG asked us to incorporated that tree into the lobby sign design.

We took the branding elements given to us and created an initial layout. The design had a 1/4" thick frosted acrylic backer. To the backer, we suggested adhering the tree and logo in 1/4" thick laser cut silver acrylic. The entire piece was designed to mount to their lobby wall with aluminum standoffs. To add visual interest, the tree was designed to extend past the backer on the left side.  

 This is a portion of the original proof, showing how the lobby sign would look once fabricated. We understand that sometimes it's difficult to visualize how a sign will look on a wall when only a proof is provided. We've offered a variety of examples in this blog post.

After some time and thought, LLG contacted us to proceed with the sign. We discussed the project again with them and created a second proof, using the custom acrylic tree for the actual backer of the sign.

The simple change of backer made all the difference! LLG signed-off on the new proof, and the sign went into production. For fabrication, we custom router cut 1/4" thick frosted acrylic into the shape of the tree to use as the backer. We added additional root structure to the base of the tree for balance. (You can see the base of the original tree in the first proof at the top.) To the face of the custom backer, we bonded 1/4" thick laser cut acrylic in a standard silver color.

Once the sign was assembled in our shop, we provided the installation at the LLG office in Brentwood. We attached the custom acrylic logo sign to the wall in the lobby with six 1" diameter aluminum standoffs. The sign mounted easily and looks fantastic!
