When you want to make a bold, elegant statement, custom metal signage is an excellent choice. We recently had the opportunity to design and fabricate a beautiful, custom metal logo sign for BioAtla, a company in San Diego that develops immunotherapies which aid in the treatment of cancer. As you will see, this bold red, dimensional sign was built to make a grand impression!

This project started with a phone call from Carmen, our contact at BioAtla, whom we had worked with on a previous project. She explained that her company was moving into a new office space and needed a logo sign to install in the front lobby. After conferring with her management team, she gave us the following requirements:

1. The sign needed to be red - in BioAtla’s brand color.
2. They wanted an elegant, brushed metal look.
3. The letters needed to have a thick, dimensional appearance.

To create a sign that would meet all of Carmen’s requirements, our design team suggested the material be stainless steel. This would provide an upscale, brushed metal look with an elegant sheen. To create the color in the sign, we suggested a translucent red powder coat to show the brushed metal texture underneath - a “candy coat” with the strength of powder coat. To show Carmen how the finish would look, we sent her several samples of stainless steel with red powder coating in a few different shades.

While Carmen was reviewing the samples, our graphic designer worked on the design layout using the BioAtla logo. He created measurements for the sign (44” x 44”) to fit the space behind the receptionist’s desk while leaving an adequate amount of empty wall space around the sign. To add dimension, he also specified that the letters should be 2 inches thick. He created a proof to show Carmen how the sign would look in the lobby area.

We provided this proof to Carmen so she could visualize how the lobby would look after the sign was installed.

Once we received approval from Carmen on her preferred sample color, the proof and the measurements, we sent the art files and instructions to the foundry where the stainless steel sign would be fabricated. The sign was cut and welded at the foundry and then sent to a specialty painter to apply the red powder coat.

We were thrilled with how this sign turned out and couldn’t wait to hear Carmen’s reaction! We’re happy to report that she and her co-workers are extremely happy with the finished product!
