Vehicle transformations come in all shapes and sizes, and vinyl material can play a large part in the changes. Although full coverage wraps make quite an impact, simple vinyl accessory wraps create a big effect while using less material. Our latest Project of the Week features the design and installation of custom vinyl stripes to the body of a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500. It's important to note that not all stripes are created equal, and they can differ in size, shape, orientation, and color.

A customer recently visited our shop to discuss new stripes for his truck. He wasn't 100% sure he was ready to make the commitment, but he was curious about the process and the price to add a new color and design to the factory black paint. Anthony met with the customer at his truck to discuss the process with him. This let the customer really explain what he wanted while looking at his truck, and Anthony was able to gather all of the information he needed to create an estimate. 

Once they came back inside, they talked about the price and the colors. Anthony showed him sample pieces of vinyl, and our customer held them against a piece of gloss black acrylic to be able to see the contrast. He left, wanting to think about it, but the decision didn't take too long to make. By the afternoon, he had called back to schedule the design and installation of his new custom vinyl stripes.

He returned the next day, ready to transform his truck into a personalized and unique driving experience. (Makes it sound extra fancy, doesn't it?) Once we had the truck in our shop, our customer came back to watch Felix draw the stripes on the truck with a white grease pencil. This gave our customer a chance to make changes to the design until it was exactly what he wanted. 

Felix is at work designing custom stripes on this Dodge Ram 1500. Give him a ruler and a grease pen, and watch out!

Once the general layout was approved by the customer (drawn on the truck), Anthony converted the custom stripes into cut files on the computer. We used our plotter to cut the pattern out of Avery Dennison Supreme Wrapping Film in Gloss Bright Blue Metallic (SW 900-646-M). We weeded the extra vinyl off of the cut pieces and installed them onto the body of the truck. The front of the truck has a custom design that leads to a solid stripe down both sides of the truck. The design ends with Mopar style stripes on the sides of the bed.   

You can see the custom design on the hood of the truck in the photo above. It's amazing how the light reflects off of the metallic flecks in the vinyl, bringing out variations in the bright blue color.

The segmented pieces of vinyl on the sides of the truck bed have the Mopar style that the customer really wanted.
