12-Point SignWorks' Signage Projects Of The Week

Custom Signage for The Birth Center at Hendersonville Medical Center

Our latest Project of the Week was fabricated in our shop south of Nashville and installed in Hendersonville, TN, northeast of Nashville. Considering that Hendersonville is a city popular for families, it seems fitting that the TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center would need signage for their brand new facility for new moms and infants. The Birth Center at TriStar Hendersonville offers state of the art equipment, knowledgeable and compassionate staff, and maternity services for women of all ages. We had the pleasure of fabricating the dimensional letters, blade signs, and cut vinyl window graphics for The Birth Center.

Nothing says 'welcome' like brushed aluminum dimensional letters. We fabricated these almost 7" tall letters from 1/2" thick black acrylic with a brushed aluminum laminated face. The letters were installed over the doorway to The Birth Center, using an installation template and very high bond (VHB) adhesive tabs.

In hospitals (and other businesses), a variety of signs are used to for wayfinding or directional purposes. To make navigating to The Birth Center easy for patients, family, and friends, two blade signs were fabricated and installed with ceiling mounting hardware.

The 12" x 55" blades were made from 1/4" aluminum composite panels (ACP). To them, we mounted the graphic of the directional arrow and 'The Birth Center' lettering that was digitally printed on vinyl with a protective matte laminate. The digital prints were installed on both sides of the panels. We attached them to the ceiling using three ceiling mount standoffs per sign.

You can see one of the two blade signs above. The bottom of the second sign can be seen just after the ceiling light. Since both sides of the panels are visible, the digital print was installed on both sides for a very finished look.

For privacy reasons and for aesthetics, we installed etched glass vinyl to the windows of the doors that lead into The Birth Center. The letters for 'THE BIRTH CENTER' and a cute graphic of a dandelion were cut out of the vinyl (instead of being made from the etched glass vinyl) to provide the most security. The use of the etched glass vinyl allows for light to come through, which keeps the area bright and cheerful.

Do you see the little dandelion on the bottom left and right of the windows to The Birth Center?

Possibly the most critical area of The Birth Center, the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) also received its own custom signage. We fabricated dimensional letters for the NICU out of the same 1/2" thick black acrylic with a brushed aluminum face that we used for The Birth Center lettering. The letters for the NICU are taller, measuring 10" tall. We used an installation template and VHB to adhere the letters to the wall above the NICU doors.

We also created 3" x 33" pieces of etched glass vinyl for the slender windows of the doors into the NICU. Similar to The Birth Center doors, the letters were cut out of the etched glass vinyl to create a reverse effect that maximizes privacy. The overall combination gives a very clean and sophisticated look.

We enjoyed being a part of such a special project, creating custom signage for a location that brings new life into our world! We look forward to additional projects with TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center as they continuously work to create the best environment for their patients.
