Middle Tennessee Christian School, located in Murfreesboro, TN, recently opened an innovative new robotics garage. We had the privilege to create a one of a kind, rustic metal sign for the building’s front exterior wall. Check out the very cool patina effect on this sign. We enjoyed creating this unique finish!

Talk about distinctive! We can definitely say there's no other sign quite like this one in Middle Tennessee!

The new robotics garage was converted from a free-standing building already located on the school’s campus. Lori Shea, Director of Learning Support Services, said, “In the Robotics Garage, students will be preparing for the jobs of tomorrow though the processes of writing code, constructing robots, problem solving and working as a team. The Robotics Garage will be an innovative space where students can exercise creativity - honoring and modeling the Master Creator.” 

We worked with Lori to design the sign’s unique look and to select materials. The 60” x 18” sign was water-jet cut from ¼” thick steel. We applied a browning acid and “burned” the metal sign to create a patina effect. Here’s a photo of one of our team members using the blow torch. Needless to say, we had a good time with this one!

Any chance we get to burn something...now that's a fun day! ;-)

An orange piece of acrylic was also cut and installed behind the open paw-print shaped brand mark. We love this extra touch!

We also cut and printed on a thin brushed metal, stainless steel plate to identify the donors, the Jennings and Rebecca Jones Foundation, who helped make the new garage (and sign) possible. This plate was installed on the bottom right corner of the sign.

The best part of the fabrication process was definitely using the blow torch. The unique burned patina finish made this sign really stand out. We’re happy to report the students, teachers and staff love their new metal sign!
