New Black Aluminum Post and Panel Signs for Carnton Plantation

Posted on March 10, 2017 | Posted by Kris Williamson

As our city witnesses the ongoing restoration of the Battle of Franklin landmarks, we continue to work with The Battle of Franklin Trust on signage in and around the historic battlefield sites. Our partnership with The Battle of Franklin Trust began in 2013, when we made outdoor 'welcome' signs for both the Carnton Plantation and The Carter House. Within the last year, we've fabricated and installed two additional aluminum post and panel signs for the grounds of the Carnton Plantation.

Although the welcome sign for the Carnton Plantation is a beautiful sandblasted redwood post and panel sign, the new signs are made from black aluminum and designed to resemble the welcome sign at The Carter House. Using black as the background with white and metallic gold vinyl accents, the signs tie together the two properties that the Battle of Franklin Trust works so hard to preserve.

For the first sign, we created a "yard sign" to remind folks visiting that they need a ticket to enter the plantation grounds. We used 3" aluminum posts with decorative caps and channel edge fasteners to support the double-sided sign panel. For the sign, we applied metallic gold and white vinyl graphics to a 36" W X 24" H X 0.125" rectangular black aluminum panel.

Beautiful, isn't it?! (I'm talking about the home, but the sign looks pretty nice, too!) The back of the post and panel sign says, "Thank you for visiting," using the same gold and white vinyl style.

For the second post and panel sign, we replaced a 3-post sign located just off of the parking lot area. (We had moved that sign to its location many years before.) We utilized the same layout style for the 48" W X 26" H X 0.125" rectangular aluminum panel, applying the metallic gold and white vinyl for the graphics. We attached the panel to two 4" aluminum posts with decorative caps and channel edge fasteners.

Since the sign was installed in front of the building housing the restrooms (and adjacent to the Fleming Center Gift Shop), the panel is single-sided. We did use taller posts for the installation, ensuring that the sign panel height is approximately 4' from the ground. This height was chosen to clear the boxwood planted in front of the sign.
