Although we often feature advertising and fleet wraps that we've done, we also have an exotic side! (Intriguing, right?!) As much as we enjoy helping others increase brand awareness, we also appreciate the more detailed and customized approach that goes into designer vehicle wraps (a.k.a. luxury wraps or exotic wraps). 

We've had one such project in our shop for the last week, and we revealed the finished product to the client this morning. So exciting! He visited with us a few weeks ago, asking about a custom matte black wrap for his 2010 Nissan GT-R (or "Gran Turismo-Racer"). He was confident that we would focus on the details and features on his vehicle to make it something extraordinary, and we didn't disappoint.

Although it was cloudy, the rain held off as we drove the Nissan GT-R with its new custom matte black wrap out of our shop. The owner's reaction was priceless!

When we say that we will provide a full coverage wrap, we mean it. Before we placed a single piece of vinyl material on the vehicle, we removed all of the accessory parts from it, including the badges, side mirrors, wing, and hood and front fender vents. This allows us to access the nooks and crannies so that the vinyl adheres to as much of the body as possible. You won't see a hint of the original gloss black paint anywhere on this GT-R.

Stealth. Smooth. Seamless.

We also taped and covered the vehicle parts that were not getting vinyl on them, like the headlights and taillights. Because we use various tools when installing vinyl, we want to ensure that all other areas on the GT-R are protected. 

We protected the headlights on the Nissan GT-R by covering and taping them. The tape isn't removed until the entire wrap is complete. This photo also shows the single piece of vinyl that was used to cover the hood of the GT-R. The vents were wrapped separately and installed after the body was completely wrapped.

If you are looking for a seam on this GT-R, you aren't going to find one. We used solid pieces of matte black vinyl material to cover each section of the vehicle's body. Doing this creates a seamless, smooth exterior to the GT-R that your eyes glide over instead of getting distracted by overlapping pieces of vinyl. 

It doesn't even look like vinyl, does it?

We added a few extra details for our client that he wasn't expecting, and his reaction was priceless! We placed metallic copper vinyl over the red "R" on the vehicle's badges to match the color of the brake calipers. We also modified the corner lenses on the front and back of the GT-R so that they blend in with the matte black wrap. They still illuminate when needed, but there isn't any glare. It's the little things.

You can see the metallic copper added to the "R" on the front badge. It, along with the other badges on the vehicle, now perfectly match the brake calipers.

The before photo doesn't show the wing because we removed it while the body of the GT-R was wrapped. We added it at the very end. You can see the change in the corner lenses. They still work, but they now compliment the matte black vinyl.

For this custom wrap, we used 3M Wrap Film in Matte Deep Black (1080-M22). Matte (or flat) black and satin black are selected for high-end vehicles that demand being noticed. They can be used in conjunction with gloss or metallic vinyl for specialized accents, such as the "R" of the GT-R badge that we mentioned. Regardless of the color or finish, custom vinyl wraps take high-end vehicles and make them even more unique to the person behind the wheel.

This Nissan GT-R doesn't even look like the same vehicle with the matte black wrap.
